Celebrities today are the equivalent of the Greek gods in the Classical Age. But are they a blessing or a curse? Is there a social obligation to worship them, or can we escape their influence altogether? Do they make a positive contribution to our world by acting as role models or does their very existence constitute an affront to reason, freedom and good taste? We will discuss these questions, as well as conceptions of fame and fandom. Come and hammer out the problems!
The speaker is Anja Steinbauer, editor of Philosophy Now and president of Philosophy For All.
I'm fascinated by this talk: will 105 people really fit into the venue? :P
From my experience in other meet-ups, only half of them will come...around 50 I guess...
Hello, I'm a newbie. How do I find you in the pub please? I'm looking forward to meeting you...
I recommend you use either a Geiger-counter or ask the bar-staff where the Philosophy talk is going on (they usually do). Typically a room is dedicated for the purpose of the talk and once you find that it'll be easy to find the rest of the captives.
Hi,
The topic looks great - I was wondering what time the actual discussion begins as I hope to get there for just after seven thirty due to work?
Thanks,
Natasha
